DreamHost has officially been removed from the list of hosting providers recommended by WordPress.org. The change was implemented by Samuel Wood (Otto), known as the “Tech Ninja” for Audrey Capital. Following the update, the page now highlights Pressable, Bluehost, and Hostinger as the sole recommended hosts.
No Explanation for the Change
The removal came without any detailed explanation. The associated changeset included a brief note stating, “Hosting: rm dreamhost, per matt.” Notably, DreamHost experienced a similar delisting earlier this year on January 17, 2024, but was reinstated shortly thereafter.
Community Concerns Over Transparency
For years, the WordPress.org Hosting page has been a source of debate within the community. Questions about the criteria for inclusion or exclusion have frequently surfaced, with many calling for greater clarity and fairness in the selection process.
When SiteGround was removed from the list last year, it sparked widespread discussion among community members. Many contributors advocated for the creation of transparent and objective guidelines to determine eligibility for recommendation.
A Notable Absence
Interestingly, the page does not include WordPress.com among its recommended hosting options, a detail that continues to surprise some within the WordPress ecosystem.
